Participatory Action Research: The Garifuna Communities of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

​

The focus of this research is Indigenous knowledge and community- led climate adaptation practices of the Garifuna community of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

We seek to rectify the existing data gap in relation to the integration of Indigenous and community-based climate adaptation practices in the Eastern Caribbean, with specific emphasis on the Garifuna of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. We are striving to explore how can this integration will benefit and empower the Indigenous population of the Eastern Caribbean, and we demonstrate a mainstreaming of Indigenous research methodologies.

It is necessary to address the lack of targeted policies to focus on the specific protection of Indigenous minorities, especially in the Caribbean region, from the onslaught of climate change. We prioritise the lack of meaningful data, as such data is needed to forge the foundation of effective policies.
